Traditionally Afternoon tea or ‘low tea’ was only for the social climbers, and usually partaken in private, probably with a gossip or two about the latest going ons in high society. Queen Victoria later popularised it to a ritual which could extend to hundreds of guest at a time, a sort of open house where people could come and go as they please. It was a delicate dainty affair, with light pastries, finger food and teas ranging from black teas like Earl Grey & English Breakfast to herbal teas like Chamomile and Peppermint.
‘High Tea’ was a working class family meal, taken standing up or sitting on a tall stool, hence ‘high’. A social affair for family & loved ones.
Today High Tea encompasses all of the luxury of a traditional afternoon tea with relaxed vibes & great company. A luxurious treat & ours is no exception.
